  • Pigmentation and sun damaged skin
  • Spider veins.

What is an IPL machine?

An IPL machine is a device that  uses intense pulses of light over a range of wavelengths (from 420-1200 nm), which can be used to target different chromophores in the skin. Chromophores are molecules in the skin that absorb light. They could be pigment, blood vessels, hair or collagen.

Dependent on the wavelength, the IPL machine can target a range of different chromophores making it very accurate in the correction of correct many skin imperfections. It differs from laser, in that laser is one wavelength where IPL uses a range of wavelengths.

What does the procedure involve?

IPL skin rejuvenation involves a series of 4-6 treatments usually performed one month apart. Whilst results can be seen after the first treatment, for the best results, continued treatments are both recommended and necessary*.

Each treatment usually takes approximately 30 minutes and IPL Treatment can be performed on the facial, neck, hands and even arms. The treatment produces very little discomfort as a cool gel is applied to the skin, but as necessary, patients can apply an anaesthetic numbing cream prior to treatment.

For any of our patients with olive or tanned skin, skin preparation is very important, so we sometimes recommend the use of a fading cream for about two weeks before and following treatment.

At Illuminate we have a team of trained medical staff who are experienced both in laser technology and laser use. All clients receive a consultation from our medical staff to assess your skin concerns and then devise a treatment plan to suit your individual skin type and treatment goals.

Skin preparation is very important when using lasers and we provide this to all our patients as well as skin aftercare. We monitor all our patients through their complete treatment regime and follow up after each treatment.
